Who we are

Warmland Magazine is published by William (Bill) Reburn in Lake Cowichan, British Columbia. You can reach us at hello@warmlandmagazine.com about anything in this policy. Bill Reburn is responsible for privacy at Warmland Magazine and handles any question or complaint about this policy. If you aren't satisfied with how we deal with it, you can take it to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

What we collect

We keep this deliberately minimal. There are three ways we might hold information about you:

1. Newsletter signups. If you subscribe, we store the email address you give us, and your name if you provide one.

2. Forms. If you contact us, pitch a story, submit an event, or enquire about advertising, we keep what you send so we can reply and follow up.

3. Website analytics. Like most sites, we collect aggregate statistics about visits - pages viewed, roughly where visitors come from, what device they used. This information doesn't identify you personally.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not build profiles on individual readers.

Why we collect it

To send you the newsletter if you asked for it, to reply when you contact us, and to understand which articles people actually read so we can write more of what's useful. Aggregate audience numbers are shared with advertisers - how many people visited, not who they were.

Who else is involved, and where your information goes

This site is built and hosted on Wix. We use Google Analytics to measure traffic. Our newsletter will be sent through a dedicated email platform, named here once the first edition goes out.

These companies store and process information on servers outside Canada, primarily in the United States. That means information we hold about you may be accessible to courts, governments and law enforcement in those countries under their own laws. We use them because running a magazine this size on Canadian-only infrastructure isn't practical and keeping what we hold to a minimum is partly for this reason.

Each has its own privacy policy, and we choose providers who publish one.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Ours are used to keep the site working properly and to count visits. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings; parts of the site may not behave correctly if you do.

The Newsletter

We only email people who asked to be emailed. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link that works immediately, and we don't ask why. If unsubscribing ever fails, email us and we'll remove you by hand.

How long we keep things

Subscriber details stay until you unsubscribe. Correspondence is kept as long as it's useful, and cleared out periodically. Analytics are aggregate and retained by our provider under their own schedule.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@warmlandmagazine.com and we'll deal with it - realistically within a few days, since it's one person and a short list.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes we'll update the date at the top. Material changes will be mentioned in the newsletter.
