our mission
If you've never made it out this way, now's a good time. We're close by, easy to reach, and worth more than a passing glance - good food, good shops, and a pace of life that's harder to find than it used to be.

let's collab!
photographers, writers, makers, movers - the magazine needs you
help wanted!
Warmland Magazine is about beautiful Lake Cowichan and the vibrant communities around the Valley.

I'm looking for people who know this place and can show it to someone else. Photographers, because the light here does things worth catching and you understand the task. Writers, because there are stories in this valley nobody has told properly - the mills, the markets, the families who've been here sixty+ years. Artisans and makers, what you build is part of why our community is worth the drive.Â

We need your help!

At this time, I will place your name in front of a growing local and tourism audience, and promotion across everything we publish (social media). I have a Contributor page ready to load where I will share your name, your skills, and whatever else I can deliver in trade.Â

Introduce yourself & share your photography, your business, your craft, your writing, your ideas.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

what you keep,
what I'm asking for
Your work stays yours.
I'm not asking you to sign anything over.

What I am asking for is permission to run it in the magazine, post it to the warmland social accounts with your credit on it, and leave it live in the archive - pieces stay online here rather than disappearing. Nothing beyond that, and nothing handed to anyone else.

You can be somewhere I'm not, at the hour the light is actually worth it. Send what you've got: a lake at dawn, a wet trail, a shopfront in the rain.

writers
There are stories in this valley nobody has told properly yet. If you can find one and write it straight, without the tourism gloss, I want to read it.

If it's about this place there's room for it. Film, illustration, audio, something I haven't thought of - bring it and we'll find where it fits.

What you make in the workshop is part of why people come here at all. Let me photograph it, write about it, and point people toward your door.

about money,
since you're wondering
I can't pay for work yet, and I'm not going to dress that up or ask you to wait until we're big. You've heard that one before and it rarely arrives.

What this is instead is a trade. You give me images or words. I give you marketing - a contributor page with your name, your skills and your links, a feature piece on you and your work, and promotion across everything we publish. That's a real service and it's what I do for a living.
Â
If a trade isn't what you're after, say so and we'll leave it there.
