Warmland Magazine is about beautiful Lake Cowichan and the vibrant communities around it.

I'm looking for people who know this place and can show it to someone else. Photographers, because I can only be in one spot at a time and the light here does things worth catching. Writers, because there are stories in this valley nobody has told properly - the mills, the markets, the families who've been here sixty+ years. Artisans and makers, because what you build is part of why this town is worth the drive. Designers and creators of any kind, because a magazine is only as good as it looks. Historians, trail builders, anglers, and anyone who's been here long enough to remember what used to stand where.

At this time, I will place your name in front of a growing local and visitor audience, and promotion across everything we publish.

You don't need a portfolio or a pitch. A photo of the lake in November that made you stop, a story about the Youbou mill your grandfather told you, or something you make in a shed off South Shore Road - any of that is enough to start a conversation.

Send me a message and tell me what you've got.

You can be somewhere I'm not, at the hour the light is actually worth it. Send what you've got: a lake at dawn, a wet trail, a shopfront in the rain.

A magazine is only as good as it looks, and I know my limits. If you can make something read better or land harder than it currently does, I'm listening.

writers

There are stories in this valley nobody has told properly yet. If you can find one and write it straight, without the tourism gloss, I want to read it.

A tip, a date, a correction: the small things are what keep this accurate. You don't have to write anything, just tell me what I've missed or got wrong.

If it's about this place there's room for it. Film, illustration, audio, something I haven't thought of — bring it and we'll find where it fits.

accessibility

You know which doors open and which don't, which paths work and which ones strand you.

What you make in the workshop is part of why people come here at all. Let me photograph it, write about it, and point people toward your door.

Everyone needs a first byline, and this is a decent place to get one. Bring a camera or a notebook and I'll give you something real to put your name on.
